Our story

We got tired of bad salads

SaladWala started in 2023 in a Varachha kitchen barely larger than a parking space, because our founder could not find a lunch that was both quick and worth eating. Every salad in the city was either limp, underseasoned, or priced like a celebration.

So we started at the wrong end of the problem — not with recipes, but with the clock. If you buy at the market at 5am and chill it on the way back, it is still a good leaf at lunch. Everything else we do follows from that one decision.

What we stand for

Four rules we do not bend

Every decision in the kitchen gets measured against these. When one conflicts with margin, the rule wins.

Source honestly

We pick every crate ourselves at the market. If a crop is not good in July, we take it off the menu rather than serve you a worse version of it.

Cook properly

Salads get the same attention as a main. Seasoned, balanced and tasted by a chef before they ever reach a lid.

Leave less behind

Compostable bowls, birchwood cutlery, reusable gel packs. Not perfect yet, but measured and improving each quarter.

Pay people well

Our riders are salaried, not per-drop. Three orders a run maximum, so nobody has to speed to make a living.

The people

Who actually makes your lunch

A small team, most of whom you can meet if you visit the Varachha kitchen on a quiet afternoon.

Leela Fernandes
